不过我在网上没有找到很多例句，看来这个用法在英文中并没有中文中那么常见。但是以个人对英美文化的了解来说，这并不是因为这个修辞本身的问题，这个比喻还是很贴切的。这种说法如此少见，是因为英美人本身不会对别人的外貌进行评价，特别是这种带有贬义色彩的句子。你要是对外国人说你胖成了个球，别人会认为你这个人没修养。
所以我们在用这种说法的时候可以用在自己身上，自嘲一下应该还是可以的：
I’ve ballooned up. I had to lose weight.
